Course Description: Integrated Math I provides students the opportunity to study traditional topics from algebra, geometry, probability, and statistics in a problem-centered, connected approach. Students will be expected to describe and translate among graphic, algebraic, numeric, tabular, and verbal representations of relationships and use those representations to solve problems. Appropriate technology, from manipulatives to calculators and application software, will be used regularly for instruction and assessment.
Prerequisites
- Operate with the real numbers to solve problems.
- Use formulas to solve problems.
- Find, identify, and interpret the slope and intercepts of a linear relation.
- Visually determine the line of best fit for a given scatterplot; explain the meaning of the line; and make predictions using the line.
- Collect, organize, analyze, and display data to solve problems.
Course Philosophy:
To provide students with a greater understanding of Mathematics and ability to manipulate and solve problems.
Absence Policy:
Student attendance directly correlates with student performance. It is important to attend class every day. School policy allows for no more than 3 consecutive or 5 accumulated unexcused each semester. With regard to make-up work, an excused absence permits the students to make up the work for credit. Students will be given one day to make up their work for each day of absence for multiple absences. Work previously assigned and due on an absence day is due on the day of return. Excused absences on test days will allow the student opportunity for a make-up test. Students assigned an in-school suspension may make up work. However, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain such make-up work from classroom teachers, and it is then due on the next day the student is back in class. It is the student’s responsibility to make up work and cover material missed in class.
Legal excused absentees:
- Personal illness
- Illness in the family
- Quarantine in the home
- Death of immediate family member (mother, father, sister, brother, grandparent)
- Observance of a religious holiday
- Any other reason must be excused by the school prior to the absence
Steps to follow when student is absent:
- Parent/guardian must write an excuse with name, date, days of absence, reason for absence, and his/her signature.
- Student must present excuse to homeroom teacher.
- If absence is due to work, travel, or some other reason, parents or guardian should notify the school prior to the absence.
Tardy Policy:
Tardiness will not be accepted. Students arriving to class tardy will only be allowed admittance with a pass from the office or letter of explanation (signed and dated by faculty who caused them to be tardy). Worked missed due to tardiness can only be made up and accepted with a note.
Classroom Rules:
- Come to class prepared to learn with supplies and material each day.
- Always stay focused and on task.
- Be actively participating in class each day.
- Be respectful of yourself, others, their property and school property.
Note: all school rules apply in this classroom as well.
Classroom Procedures:
After entering the room and the tardy bell has rang students will not leave unless granted permission.
Students are responsible for the cleanliness and tidiness of the area they are seated.
Notebooks must be dated, organized, and accurate up to the current material covered in class

Assignments:
There will be 8 tests (one for each unit) and numerous quizzes throughout the class. Homework, starters, exit tickets, classwork, and anything else may be collected as a quiz grade.
Students will have 1 project this semester. This will be a project of choice where students take math and apply it to their everyday life. They can choose any topic (sports, architecture, gambling, business, etc.) and find the math behind this subject. Then, students will write a 3-5 page paper explaining their math concept, how it is involved in their topic and use math to solve a problem or find better understanding about that topic. This will be worked on throughout the semester in class. Though students will need to do an extensive amount of research individually.
